Each month, our Good Stewards receive a copy of Boot Prints, an internal company newsletter. In every issue, one employee is spotlighted. Our spotlighted employee for March is Mark Raney! Mark is a graphic designer who works from home in Minnesota. He joined Good Steward Consulting as a contractor in November of 2018 and became a full-time employee in March of 2021. Earlier this month he celebrated his four-year anniversary with the company! Learn more about him below!

Q: What does being a Good Steward mean to you?
A: For me, being a Good Steward means using my design and communication skills to support my teammates and the local communities we represent by creating unique and visually appealing materials that will be used to help us reach our goals. Also, it means caring for the environment so my kids and their kids, etc., can enjoy the same or better quality of life I’ve enjoyed.
Q: How has your role evolved over time since you’ve been here?
A: When I started in 2018, I was a 10-20 hour a week contract employee working with Mariah, Teresa, and four other full-timers. Designing GSC and client items. Fast forward 6+ years, now I’m working full-time with Mariah, Teresa, and 29 other full-timers. The number of design projects has exploded since I started and now I have the luxury of Luke (our Graphic Design Associate) to help me keep up with everything, while also giving me a chance to spend more time on the GSC brand.

Q: What is the most enjoyable project(s) you've worked on here?
A: So many, this is tough. Most everyone who knows me, knows that I love logo design and I’ve gotten to do quite a few for GSC, but there are two projects that stand out, one was designing the wall and window graphics for the GSC office and the other was the GSC Cookbook.
Q: What's one thing people don't know about you that they would be surprised to find out?
A: GSC is the sixth company that I’ve been a full-time graphic designer/art director for. And somewhere along the way, I started my own design company, raneyworks.com.

Q: What’s one thing on your bucket list?
A: I don’t have a bucket list, but something that I really want to do is spend time exploring northern Arizona and southern Utah. So many cool places in that area. About 10 years ago, on a road trip to California, my family and I spent a day at Zion National Park and got a taste of it. Hiking the Narrows was amazing!
Q: What, if anything, are you currently binge-watching? Or reading?
A: Recently started reading the Joe Pickett books by C.J. Box. I watched the series on Paramount + so thought I’d try the books. Gotta say the books are much better.
Thanks for being on the team, Mark!
