2024 was a big year for Good Steward Consulting, capped off by reaching the milestone of 20 GW of power in our portfolio a whopping six years early! To celebrate we asked some of our team members to write their own reflections on the growth they've seen as a Good Steward.
Teresa is an experienced businesswoman with a deep background in economic development, public relations, marketing, and an understanding of the importance of effectively communicating the benefits and impacts of development projects to ensure success. After first joining GSC in 2018, she came on as the Director of Operations in 2021 and currently leads our Boot on the Ground efforts across all projects.
GSC had set a 2030 goal of reaching 20 Gigawatts (GW) of energy in the projects in our portfolio of business. That is enough energy to power six million homes. Six million homes, that’s greater than the entire population of my home state of Iowa which is 3.2 million. We secured 20 GW in November 2024 and blew that 2030 goal out of the water six years early. That is crazy! The growth of GSC from a little consulting firm with one employee in 2016, to one large client and a handful of projects in 2018 when we built the initial team of five people, to having over 30 full-time employees with 95+ projects historically in 20+ states today is just mind boggling, amazing, and a testament to the desire, drive, and abilities of Mariah and all those that have been involved in GSC from the start to today.
I am so proud to be Director of Operations for GSC and of the work we do here. I am proud of all of our team members and value each and every one of them. I know they care just as much as I do about the communities and the people we work with in our project areas. I am proud of our Leadership team. I know they are always looking to the future and guiding the company to continue to be successful. And I am proud of Mariah. She breathed deep, closed her eyes and stepped off a cliff back in 2016 when she started Good Steward Consulting leaving the security that is full time employment with a salary and benefits.
Starting a company is no small task and growing a successful business, especially one that matures to five years and beyond to now almost nine years, is no small feat. It takes a lot of faith, patience, a ton of really hard work, a lot of tenacity so you can get through the tough times and keep going, some luck, a few tears, a lot of support from those around you, and a great team that understands your vision and supports it and wants to help you mold that vision so the company will be successful. Our team has input and shares in decision making that shapes the company yesterday, today, and tomorrow. The fact that the team is a big part of why GSC is successful is not lost on Mariah. In a recent communication she stated, “I’m nothing without you guys and I am forever grateful.” Ditto Mariah. And thank you for taking all of us along with you on this ride.
20 GW now….50 GW in five more years? Who knows. But whatever number we hit out of the park next, I’m looking forward to it!
